Taking a cruise through Paris
My recent trip to Paris was most definitely a journey of two halves. There were endless streets to navigate, armed with a crumpled map and two weary colleagues. There were hotels dotted all over the huge city that we needed to visit and make notes on. We had appointments to keep to and very tired feet! I was conscious that I was letting the best of Paris, a city I have loved since I was a child, pass me by in a rushed blur.
Although it was a trip for work, it is always important to find time to relax and soak up the surroundings whilst letting the world go by. Paris is perfect for people watching, one of my favourite hobbies! We were lucky that Railbookers had organised a river cruise along the Seine for us! Although I had visited Paris many times this was something new to me!
The sun glistened off the river as tourists and locals alike relaxed taking in the beautiful and historic panorama. We glided leisurely past picture-perfect scenes and saw the highlights of Paris – the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Pont des Arts – from an entirely new perspective. It was great to be able to take 40 minutes to relax and enjoy each other's company without a care in the world. After a few more hotel visits, we spent the last part of the afternoon heading over to Montmartre for one final hotel visit. The beautiful Terrass Hotel boasts a really wonderful rooftop bar.
On our clear summer's day we could see over almost the whole of Paris, and all the way over to the Eiffel Tower. We could catch glimpses of the Moulin Rouge fans spinning just a few streets away. After one member of our group had taken his obligatory selfies, we left and headed up towards the Sacre Coer to watch the sunset. We purchased a crepe from one of the many vendors, soaked up the party atmosphere and rested our feet with one of the most breathtaking views imaginable before heading back to the Gare Du Nord to take our Eurostar home.
